Madama Butterfly - the adored opera by Giacomo Puccini - is an explosive tale of love and tragedy that has mesmerised audiences the world over. This July, Madama Butterfly is coming to HOTA in Surfers Paradise with a special three-day run presented by Opera Australia.
Following star-crossed lovers Lieutenant Pinkerton and Cio-Cio-San in Nagasaki at the beginning of the 20th century, Madama Butterfly is a love story that traverses culture and time with hard-hitting themes of culture, religion and forbidden love. Since its premiere in Italy in 1904, this three-act opera - based on the 1998 short story by John Luther Long - has been performed the world over, and was even credited as the main inspiration behind the Broadway and West End sensation, Miss Saigon.
Directed by acclaimed Australian director John Bell and featuring a pool of world-class vocal talent from Opera Australia, this brand new Australian adaptation of Madama Butterfly is the season’s must-see production, which isn’t to be missed this winter on the Queensland Gold Coast.
Madama Butterfly comes to the Arts Theatre at Home of the Arts Surfers Paradise with three exclusive evening performances on July 18, July 19 and July 20.
